Why CaseWare matters
CaseWare Working Papers and its cloud-based products are used by many audit and accounting firms to organise engagement files, link working papers to the trial balance and generate financial statements. CaseWare IDEA is used for data analytics, for example testing full populations of transactions.
Best practices for audit and accounts files
- Use a firm-approved template so every engagement follows the same structure and methodology
- Import the trial balance directly from the client's system and reconcile it before mapping
- Map accounts carefully to financial statement lines once, review the mapping, then lock it
- Link lead schedules, working papers and notes to the trial balance instead of typing numbers in
- Record adjustments as journal entries in the file so the audit trail is complete
Review and quality
Use preparer and reviewer sign-offs on every document and resolve review notes inside the file. Firms that standardise checklists and disclosure templates find reviews faster and quality more consistent between teams.
Roll forward, don't rebuild
At the start of each year, roll the prior-year file forward so mappings, templates and permanent documents carry over. Only the new trial balance and current-year evidence need to be added.
How offshore support fits in
Our audit support staff prepare working papers, lead schedules and financial statement drafts in your firm's templates and software, ready for your review, which frees your onshore team for judgement and client work.
